SLOAN, Iowa -- Brock C. Thorpe, 21, of Sloan died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Westwood Community School in Sloan, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Community Church of Christ in Sloan. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Brock Charles Thorpe was born April 25, 1987, in Sioux City, the son of Charles and Sandra (Davis) Thorpe. He was raised in Sloan and graduated from Westwood High School with the class of 2005. He loved sports and participated in baseball, football, basketball and track. After graduation, Brock attended the University of South Dakota for a year and transferred to Kirkwood College, where he earned a degree in telecommunications in 2008. He worked for Brett Steinhoff, Bill Rook and was currently employed at BPI.

He was a member of Community Church of Christ. Brock was an avid golfer and sportsman, whether participating or watching a game, and lived life to its fullest.

Survivors include his parents, Charlie and Sandy Thorpe of Sloan; two sisters, Haley and her boyfriend, Ryan Strom of Sloan, and Stephanie of Las Vegas, Nev.; his grandmother, Margaret Davis of Sioux City; aunts and uncles, Carol Thorpe of Reno, Nev., Beverly Thorpe of Salix, Iowa, Roxann Thorpe of Salix, Pamela (Ernie) Lavagetto of Walnut Creek, Calif., Marc (Vivian) Thorpe of Alameda, Calif., Sue (Bill) Blatchford of Sioux City, Patty (Greg) Koenig of South Sioux City, and Penny (Joe) Galvin of Monument, Colo.; several great-aunts and great-uncles; many cousins and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rupert and Dorothy Thorpe and Russell Davis.
