SIOUX CITY -- Monty Francis Wallen, 58, of Fond du Lac, Wis., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, in Fond du Lac, from injuries suffered in an auto accident.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating, followed by a luncheon at the parish center. Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior to services at the church.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Calvary Cemetery. Following the graveside services, everyone is invited to the Wallen Stables, 2700 Memorial Drive in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Monty was born Feb. 27, 1950, in Sioux City, to Richard F. and Marilyn J. (Sweeney) Wallen. He grew up in Sioux City. He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and graduated from Heelan High School. Monty was a man of strong faith in the Lord. He enjoyed helping out the less fortunate and elderly. He had a wide and varied career in the horse industry, training saddlebreds, national show horses and morgans. He enjoyed teaching and sharing his knowledge about horses and horsemanship with people of all ages. He produced several world champions such as RWC Dancing Carousel, Orchard Height's Ramblin Rose, Gorgeous George KA, Tambark's Power of Love and Cherokee King.

Some of his favorite hobbies were playing cards and baking. When he wasn't playing cards, he was playing bingos with the seniors. Monty was known for telling jokes, playing pranks and making people laugh. Monty will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Survivors include his parents, Richard and Marilyn Wallen of Sioux City; eight brothers and sisters, Linda Wallen of Kankakee, Ill., Rick Wallen of Marshall, Wis., John Wallen of Sparta, Mo., Debra Wallen of Ida Grove, Iowa, Rob Wallen and his wife, Betsy of Temecula, Calif., James Wallen and his special friend, Marsha of Louisville, Ky., Jeanne Wallen-Trizila and her husband, Terry Trizila of Sioux City, and Brent Wallen and his special friend, Lorrie of Sioux City; eight nieces and nephews, Christy Johnson, Michael and Matthew Wallen, Nick and Becky Becerra, Alex, Carrie and Austen Wallen.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Kathy Rae Wallen; a sister, Jody Terese Wallen; and a brother, Randy David Wallen.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Monty's name. Memorials may be sent to Wallen Stables, 2700 Memorial Drive, Sioux City, IA 51103.
