7 May 2008Verna B. Pofahl, 90, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Craig Bock officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Verna B. Pofahl was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Yankton, S.D., the daughter of Robert and Lulu (Jackson) Pinney. She attended high school in Le Mars, Iowa.
She married William H. Lewis and later Louis Pofahl of Ewing, Neb. Years ago, she and William Lewis owned and operated a restaurant in Sheldon, Iowa.
She was a member of the Siouxland Senior Center and enjoyed participating in their activities. She loved to attend flea markets, travel and dance. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandson.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Barbara and James Bobier of Sioux City, Rhinehart and Mary Ann Lewis of Fallon, Nev., and Robert and Mary Lewis of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Laurie, Lisa, Lonnie, Dan, Ric, Jim Jr. and Bounsong; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Wayne; three brothers, Ralph, Marion and Delno; and a granddaughter, Lynette.
Pallbearers will be James Bobier Jr., Steve Sterner, Zach Lewis, Justin Lewis, Ric Lewis and Dan Lewis.
