Romain "Ed" O. Lamkin, 87, of Sioux City died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at a Sioux City nursing home after a long illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Allan Reicks officiating. Burial of the ashes will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a rosary at 4 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters of America, the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus-Blessed Sacrament Council and St. Theresa Study Club, and a 7 p.m. vigil service, all at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will provide an honor guard at the vigil service. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Ed was born on June 22, 1916, in Cottonwood, Minn., the son of Benjamin and Lottie (Round) Lamkin. He graduated from Canton High School in Canton, S.D., in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 until his discharge in 1946. He served with the 3501st AAF Base Unit.

He married Margaret Slowey on May 23, 1942, in Sioux City. He was employed at Swift & Co. before and after the war and survived the explosion at the Swift Plant in Sioux City. Mr. Lamkin also worked as a salesman for Lehman Wrecking Co., Sears, Roebuck & Co. and for Baxter Holiday Mobile Home Village. He retired in 1981.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Men's Club, the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus-Blessed Sacrament Council 11038, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus-Garrigan Assembly and was a committee member of the Blessed Sacrament Boy Scout Troop 100. He received the Service to Youth award from the Kiwanis Club in 1996. He was a former member of the Sioux City Boat Club, Dakota Dunes Country Club and the Siouxland Senior Center. He enjoyed his grandchildren, golf, working in his yard and doing volunteer work.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Sioux City; two sons, Mark and his wife, Cindy of Austin, Texas and Charles of Overland Park, Kan.; a daughter and her husband, Rita and John Hendrickson of Rochester, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa and Hannah Lamkin, Andrew, Matthew and Cameron Lamkin, Tim, Luke, Monica and Theresa Hendrickson; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lamkin of Cedar Creek, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Clifford.

Pallbearers will be Tim Hendrickson, Luke Hendrickson, Andrew Lamkin, Matthew Lamkin, Robert Mohan and Phil Ortmann.

Memorials may be sent to Blessed Sacrament Boy Scout Troop 100, Blessed Sacrament Education Fund or Hospice of Siouxland.
