Gregory Lee Hendrickson, 49, of rural Grand Rapids, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at his residence from a long courageous battle with kidney cancer. He was surrounded by his family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids, with the Rev. Marva Jean Hutchens officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Greg was born to Norma Marne (Paulsen) and Edwin Hendrickson, on July 8, 1956, in Grand Rapids. He grew up just north of Grand Rapids and attended Grand Rapids High School, graduating in 1974. He attended Itasca Community College and the University of North Dakota, where he received a bachelors in mechanical engineering.

His first job after college was in Sioux City, where he met his wife, Cindy. He returned to Grand Rapids in 1982, after he attained a job with Minnesota Power. He married Cindy one year later. They made Grand Rapids their home and raised his children there. He worked for Minnesota Power for 23 years as an engineer.

He loved his family and friends and enjoyed being outdoors, building things, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy; two sons, Joshua Hendrickson of Duluth, Minn., and Daniel Hendrickson at home; three brothers, Edwin (Linda) Hendrickson of Saginaw, Minn., Dennis (Deb) Hendrickson of Zim, Minn., and Brian (Deanna) Hendrickson of Central City, Iowa; his in-laws, George and Jeanette Peterson of South Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Terri (Bill) Johnston of Dakota City and Lisa (Kevin) Boneschans of South Sioux City; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Richard and Norma Marne (Paulsen) Hendrickson Sr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Itasca Hospice or the Grand Rapids Methodist Church.
