WAKONDA, S.D. -- Grace Elizabeth Glidden, 86, of Wakonda died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wakonda. Burial will be in St. Patrick's South Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion, S.D.

Grace Collins was born May 6, 1919, in Tripp County, S.D., to John and Margaret (Walsh) Collins. She graduated from Colome High School and earned her degree as a registered nurse from McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

She married Joe Glidden on Aug. 19, 1946, in Clearfield, S.D. The couple owned and operated Glidden's Market in Wakonda for many years. She retired from nursing in 1991, from the Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, S.D.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Altar Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Wakonda Senior Citizens.

Survivors include three sons, Jack (Ellen) Glidden of Sioux City, Jim (Kathy) Glidden of Junction City, Kan., and Tim (Kris) Glidden of Omaha; two daughters, Peg (Cork) Kizer of Marshall, Minn., and Liz (Hank) Zoellick of Crystal Lake, Ill.; two brothers, Jack and Bob Collins; four sisters, Annie Ulmer, Peg Nolan, Kath Steele and Joan Foltz; 27 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; a son, Bill; a daughter, Mary Ellen Matson; four brothers, Bill, Clem, Jim and Tom; three sisters, Mary Newport, Patsy Knodell and Dorothy Almendinger; and two infant brothers.
