Per Borje Pettersson of Sioux City lost his brave and courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Lozer of Mayflower Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Pettersson was born Jan. 3, 1937, in Sater Dalarna Lan, Sweden, the son of Gustaf and Elna (Erickson) Pettersson. At the age of 12, he and his family immigrated to the United States and to Sioux City in July 1949. He attended public schools in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School.

He married Sandra Lee Hayes in 1958. He worked for the Sioux City Community School District for 38 years, holding the positions of carpenter, construction supervisor and stadium manager. From 1986 to 1996, he held the position of director of physical operations.

He was a member of the stadium committee, building committee and control administration committee. He was a member and served on the board of directors for the Iowa Building and Ground Association. He also was a member of the Construction Specifier League. He was a former member of the 185th Air National Guard, the Scandinavian Society, the Masons and was a notary public for the state of Iowa.

He was an avid trout fisherman and pheasant hunter. He enjoyed riding his Harley. In his spare time, he enjoyed helping others with whatever he could.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; a brother and his wife, Bengt and Kathy Pettersson of North Carolina; two sons and their wives, Scott and Romi Pettersson and Steve and Janet Pettersson, all of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, Joshua, Stephanie, Amber, Marcus, Jeremiah, Shadrick, Justin, Kristin and Cody Pettersson, all of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren, Jaden, Kaden, Braxton and Bryce; a brother-in-law, Dennis Hayes; and a sister-in-law, Sherry Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He will be greatly missed and loved by all who knew him.
