Dennis E. “Duke” Ayers, 52, of Sioux City died Monday, February 7, 2005 at an Omaha hospital.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel Wittrock, pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church, officiating. Burial with military graveside flag presentation, will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

“Duke” was born July 24, 1952 in Sioux City, the son of William and Mary C. (Kirchmeier) Ayers. He graduated from Central High School in 1971.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He received his associate degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was employed at IBP and Tyson Fresh Foods for 30 years. He also was employed at Steinbeck Bar & Grill in Sioux City.

He is survived by four brothers and their wives, Kenneth and Kathy of Nashville, Tennessee, David and Lori of Champaign, Illinois, Mark and Ellen of Sioux Center, Iowa and Billy and Susan of Butler, Minnesota; two sisters, Karen Wells and Linda and her husband, Charles Ferfel, all of Sioux City and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Kevin, David, Mark and Billy Ayers, and Michael and Brian Wells.
