Thos. Bayne Passes away In A Hospital

Second Operation in Appendicitis Case Proves Ineffectual to Save His Life

Thos. W. Bayne, who for the last 20 years has been connected with the stock yards of Sioux City, died at a local hospital last night, following an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Bayne was taken ill Monday of last week and submitted to an operation Wednesday. He rallied well from the operation and the attending physicians were sanguine of his recovery. On Sunday night a turn for the worse came and it was deemed necessary to perform a second operation in the hope of saving the patient’s life; but in his weakened condition he was unable to withstand the shock.

Mr. Bayne is survived by his wife and three children; two brothers, Harry Bayne of Chicago, who is in this city and John Bayne, an engineer on the Milwaukee railroad; five sisters, Mrs. William Westcott of Woodstock, Ont., Mrs. David Sutherland of Chicago; Miss Abbie Bayne of Chicago, Mrs. McKay of Goldbar, Washington and Miss Margaret Bayne of Washington State. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock from the home, 2817 Morningside Avenue.

Thomas Bayne was born November 29, 1867 at Woodstock, Ont. He moved to Chicago when a young man and was employed by a commission firm in the stock yards there. He came to Sioux City in 1888 and was for 10 years employed by the Sioux City Stock Yards Company. Later, he worked nine years for Long & Hansen. He became a member of the firm of Steele, Siman & Co. four years ago.

In the primaries two years ago, Mr. Bayne was a candidate for mayor. He was elected to the City council in 1905, holding office four years. In 1909 he was elected alderman at large.

In 1902, Mr. Bayne took an active part in the building of Morningside Presbyterian church and was a member of the board of trustees. Last evening the elders of the church held a meeting to draft appropriate resolutions. Mr. Bayne was a member of the Knights of Maccabees and Modern Woodmen.

Body Of Thos. W. Bayne Is Laid To Rest Today

The last rites were spoken over the body of T.W. Bayne, 2817 Morningside Avenue, at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon at the Morningside Presbyterian Church by Rev. J.W. Countermine, of Dis Moines, first pastor of the church. Rev. R.C. Cully, pastor of the local church, assisted. The body was laid at rest in Graceland Park Cemetery.

E.B. Babcock, H.U. Carpenter, D. C. Kisselman, w. H. McGee, Frank E. Scott and A.J. Siman were active pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers were W.G. Sears, Ed Kerby, Henry Metz, George W. Coulson, Ed Haakinson, A. L. Harding, Ed Hanlon, John Krummann, Ed Evans, O.L. Johnson, A.A. Smith, Frank Comiskey and H. Levin.
