Early President Of Morningside Dead
Rev. G.W. Carr, Aged 72, Expires at Home of Daughter in Seattle

Rev. G. W. Carr, who from 1894 to 1896 was president of Morningside college, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cyrus L. Gilbert, in Seattle, Washington. Mr. Carr, who was 75 years old, had been ill for several months.

No individual did more to advance the interest of Morningside College than Rev. Mr. Carr. He worked tirelessly to tide the institution through the uncertain days of its infancy, and generously contributed to the cause funds from his own purse. It was largely through his efforts that Rev. Dr. W. S. Lewis was secured as president of the college. From that time on the college has prospered, becoming one of the leading educational institutions of the northwest.

Rev. Mr. Carr was reared and educated in New England. In 1864 he was admitted to membership in the New Hampshire conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He moved to Illinois while still a young man and preached there for several years. His health beginning to fail, he moved to Iowa, locating near Correctionville, where he owned a farm. In 1889 he became a member of the Northwest Iowa Conference.

Rev. Carr held pastorates at Sheldon, Leeds and LeMars and built churches at the two latter cities. During his life he erected 26 churches. He gave up his work here about 10 years ago and moved west. He is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters, all of Seattle.
