Mr. Schuster Dies At Age Of 83 Years

Aged Mother of Mrs. E. C. Tompkins Passes Away From Apoplectic Stroke

Mrs. Adaline Henrietta Schuster, widow of the late G. H. Schuster, and a resident of Sioux City for 55 years, died at 7 o’clock last night at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Tompkins, 613 Eighth Street, succumbing to an illness of about a week’s duration. She was 83 years old.

Mrs. Schuster suffered a stroke of apoplexy about a week ago, her condition becoming critical the latter part of last week. A surviving daughter, Mrs. C. M. Swan of Chicago and the immediate relatives in Sioux City were at the bedside at the end.

Mrs. Schuster was born in Besancon, France on June 7, 1829, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Frederick Maritz. She was married to George Henry Schuster in St. Louis, Missouri on August 24, 1853. Mr. and Mrs. Schuster came to Sioux City in 1857, where he engaged in a general store business with a partner, George Marion. Mr. Schuster was an alderman and member of the school board during his residence in Sioux City. He retired from business in 1882 and died on October 27, 1893. Mr. Schuster served with distinction in the French army under the famous Marshal McMahon from 1844 to 1849.

Out of town relatives have been notified of the death of Mrs. Schuster. The survivors are Mrs. E. C. Tompkins of Sioux City, Mrs. James B. Sloan of Sunnyvale, California, Mrs. C. M. Swan of Chicago and Mrs. A. B. Gould of Cincinnati, Ohio, daughters, Will L. Schuster of Albany, New York, a son, and Mrs. E. M. Marion of St. Louis, Missouri, a sister.

The funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the residence, Rev. Ralph P. Smith, rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church officiating. The bearers will be W. D. Irvine, E. E. Selmser, Craig Van Dyke, Dr. G. P. Statter, J. S. Michael and J. B. Bolton. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery.
