Arlos Eugene Camarigg, 89, of Sun City West, formerly of Correctionville, passed away on Oct. 14, 2018 at his home.

A celebration of life service will be 3 p.m. on Nov. 6, at Shepherd of the Hills UMC, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd, in Sun City West.

Gene was born on June 20, 1929, in Correctionville, Woodbury County, the son of Wayne and Alice Camarigg. Gene graduated with a BA from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa, and an MA from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He was a member of the baseball team at Westmar and also played semi-pro baseball in Iowa.

In 1950, he joined the U.S. Navy and was a personnelman on the USS William M. Wood, Destroyer and the USS Yosemite, Destroyer Tender. During his service he also played on the ship's baseball team. While in the service, he met his wife of 64 years, Joan Brosh.

His teaching career included three years in Holstein, Iowa, and 30 years in Tinton Falls, N.J. During his teaching career, he taught junior high students and coached girls basketball for 30 years.

He was a member of the Neptune Flying Club, Monmouth Airport County. After moving to Sun City West, he joined the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Posse serving for the next 21 years. Gene was a member of the Pebblebrook and Stardust Men's Golf Clubs.

Gene is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Kim Moore and husband, Paul of Wall Township, N.J., and Keri Camarigg and partner, Maryanne Coughlin of South Hadley, Mass.; granddaughters, Robin Moore McGlothin and husband, Jake of Reston, Va., and Randi Moore of Asbury Park, N.J.; great-grandchildren, Mack and Stella McGlothin; his brother, David and wife, Nancy of Newport Beach, Calif.; nephews, Mark and Jeff Camarigg; and niece, Lisa Jabara.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley or Shepherd of the Hills UMC.
