John "Jack" A. DeWall, 74, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at a local hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Jack was born on Dec. 12, 1943, in Omaha, to John H. and Julia (Petrose) DeWall. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Heelan High School. Jack married Jacquelyn "Jacky" Peters on Aug. 4, 1962, in St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Jack worked for Swift Packing Company until it closed. He then worked for Iowa Beef until 1992, when he could no longer work due to his declining health. Jack had a kidney transplant and once he was well enough, started working at the Siouxland Humane Society, encouraging his love for animals. In life, Jack was a kidney recipient from an organ donor. In death, he had the honor to donate to the Iowa Donor Network.

For many years, Jack enjoyed woodworking. He had been a member of Elks Lodge for many years, before his declining health interfered. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jacky; children, Jerri (Peter Mills) Daugherty of Davey, Neb., Jill (Edwin Pineda) Smith of Sioux City, and Jenny (Eddie) Hernandez of Sioux City; sisters, Beverly (Oak) Newhouse of Breezy Point, Minn., and Debbie (Chris) Kovar of Nisswa, Minn.; grandchildren, Stephanie, Nathan, Brandon, Britiany, Tyler, Blade, Rosa, Anna, Andrea; seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Judi and Jim Birkes, John and MaryAnn Peters, Jerri and George Morgan, Richard and Pat Peters, Mike and Judy Peters, Ginger and Jack Waldschmidt, Jeanie Parkhill, Bill and Kathy Peters, Sandy Peters, and Joe and Enola Peters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
