Marcus, Iowa Died Sioux City

Gary L. Bork, 67, of Marcus, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The Rev. Chris Childs will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Gary Louis Bork was born on June 29, 1951, in Cherokee, Iowa, one of three sons born to Harold "Bud" and Esther (Tentinger) Bork. He attended school in Marcus and graduated from Marcus High School in 1969. Following school, Gary took a job painting with Bob Hagey in Marcus. He would later take a position with the Cherokee Mental Health Institute as a painter, a job he held for 33 years.

On Aug. 19, 1972, Gary married Rosemary Gravenish and they made their home in Marcus.

In his younger years, Gary was very athletic. He played for the Marcus Merchants fast pitch softball team, and enjoyed running, hunting, bowling and playing on a recreational league basketball team. In later years, he liked to golf. He loved listening to music and attending concerts. Most central to his life was his family and participating in activities with his children and grandchildren.

Gary will be dearly missed by his children, Kristin (Bob) Hudelson of Elk Point, S.D., Jen Rohwer of Primghar, Iowa, Jason (Renee) Bork of Sheldon, Iowa, Bob (Chelsea) Bork of Marcus, and Eric (Sarah) Bork of Marcus; grandchildren, Jake, Jessica, Jordyn, Jeff, Alan, Krissy, Jaci, Zach, Alex, Will and Ellie; great-grandchildren, Adeline, Lucas, Jamie and Leo; brothers, Scott Bork of Marcus, and Rockie (Jane) Bork of Remsen, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
