Bonnie Mae Harder, 84, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018.

A celebration of life service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Ponca City Cemetery, Ponca, Neb. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Bonnie, the daughter of Ed and Winifred (Wilbur) Heydon, was born on June 2, 1934, in Newcastle, Neb. She graduated from Newcastle High in 1951, where she was the homecoming queen and editor of the school paper. She lived in Newcastle until 1951, when she moved to Sioux City. She obtained her RN from Lutheran Nursing College in 1954.

She married Charles F. "Chuck" Harder on Nov. 28, 1954 in Ponca. Chuck passed away in 2012. Bonnie worked at the Lutheran Hospital from 1954 to 1966, only to stop to care for her mother as well as Bonnie's growing family. From 1968 to 1975, Bonnie worked at Crescent Park Elementary while also caring for a few elderly ladies providing meals and/or personal care. Bonnie's father came to live with her family and she cared for him until his death. After this, Bonnie began caring for children in her home daycare 1980 to 1998.

She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Parish Fellowship, Mary Martha Circle, American Legion Auxiliary Post 64, and PTA – Crescent Park Elementary. Bonnie enjoyed writing letters and cards to family and friends sharing her faith through kind words. Bonnie lead by example showing God's love, patience and acceptance.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Annette (Richard) Gensler of Martinsburg, Neb., Suzanne Harder of Sioux City, Gregory Harder Sr. of Sioux City, Debbie James of Sioux City, and Cheryl (David) Lambrecht of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and daughter-in-law, Cherie Harder.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck; six brothers; and two sisters.
