Sioux City, formerly North Sioux City, formerly South Sioux City

Jerry L. Kingston, 76, of Sioux City, formerly of Dakota Dunes and South Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 at a local hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Jerry was born on Nov. 11, 1941, in Wakefield, the son of Roy and Laverna (Lawson) Kingston. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1959 and spent time working in California, Chicago and Louisiana before returning to South Sioux City.

Jerry married Laraine Miller on July 27, 1963, in Sioux City. They were blessed with a daughter, Jolynn. He worked at various jobs until working as a Physical Plant Director at WITCC in Sioux City. After retiring from WITCC, he managed the Dakota Prairie Apartments in Dakota Dunes.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, Riley and Kylee. He also enjoyed horseback riding, dogs, hunting, fishing and vacationing.

Survivors include his wife, Laraine Kingston of Sioux City; daughter, Jolynn Meier (Randy Shideler) of Dakota Dunes; grandchildren, Riley Jo and Kylee Kae Meier of Dakota Dunes and Jason (Brianna) and Carly Shideler; great-grandchildren, Averie, Carter, Harper and Asher; siblings, Maxine (Jake) Justice of Cape Coral, Fla., Janice Patterson of Sioux City, Karen Bryant of Waxahachie, Texas and Larry (Sue) Kingston of Monument, Colo.; brother-in-law, Porfirio Diaz of South Sioux City and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Laverna Kingston; grandson, Justin Shideler; a sister, Lila Diaz; brothers-in-law, Paul Patterson, Leon Cravens and Jeff Bryant; father and mother-in-law, Reuben and Clara Miller and brother-in-law, LeRoy Miller.
