2 November 1942

Funeral services were held this afternoon in Anderson’s funeral chapel for First Sergeant Hugh Van Slyke of Sioux City, who died Wednesday at Camp Polk, Louisiana. He had been a lifelong resident of Sioux City and was a veteran of the First World War.

A firing squad and a bugler from the Monahan Post American Legion officiated at military rites at the grave in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Sergeant Charles H. Belz, of the same tank destroyer battalion as Sergeant Van Slyke, accompanied the body here as a military escort.

He will remain in Sioux City for a short time.
