James L. “Jim” Kovarna, 62, of Hinton, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.

Jim was born on Nov. 12, 1955, to Marvin and Wilma (Gleason) Kovarna, in Sioux City. He graduated from Hinton Community High School in 1974.

He married Marietta Kovarna in February 1982 and with her raised six children.

Jim was proud of his lifetime career as a Soil Conservationist Technician with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service where he retired in 2016. He cherished his family, working the family farm and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Jim is survived by his mother, Wilma Kovarna, Marietta Kovarna, Cassandra and Brent Zimmerman, Charles and Angel Derochie, Christopher and Kelly Derochie, Jamie Kovarna, Kayla Kovarna and Russ Baker, Stephanie Kovarna and fiancé, Russell Schlotfeldt as well as his eight grandchildren, Samantha and Ryan Zimmerman, Braiden, Payton and Joseph Derochie, Cyska and Keely Derochie, and Rosalee Baker.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin.
