Buried – St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Oto, Iowa

Doris Elaine O’Connell was born November 30, 1921, in Moville, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Ruth (Green) McElrath. St. M. She was raised in the Moville area, where she graduated from high school in 1939. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and graduated with a teacher’s degree.

On April 17, 1941, Doria was united in marriage to Vincent O’Connell in Oto, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Anthon and Oto area before retiring in Oto.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oto, where she was also a member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed her family, dancing, fishing, morning coffee and traveling.

Those survivors left to cherish Doris’ memory include her husband of 59 years, a daughter and her husband, Marcia and Ray Brown of Sioux City, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Dennis and Linda of Ontario, California and Bill and Nancy of Anthon, Iowa, seven grandchildren, Steve Brown, Brenda Kellen, Christy Brown, Amy O’Connell, Stacy O’Connell, Jennifer Beeson and Eric O’Connell, seven great-grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Janice and Ralph Long and one brother, Jack McElrath, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie McElrath of Long Beach, California along with several other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Neil.
