“Fritz” Barth Passes Away
Pneumonia Causes Death of Long Resident of the City

Frederick (Fritz) Barth, Jr., a resident of Sioux City for nearly half a century, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. M.J. Ford, 1113 Virginia Street, Monday. Pneumonia was the cause of his death.

Born in Waterloo, Iowa January 25, 1874, he came to Sioux City with his parents when but one year old. His father was for a number of year’s editor and publisher of The Sioux City Courier.

After receiving his education in the public schools of Sioux City, Mr. Barth entered the grocery business as an employee of John Schwinn. Fifteen years later he purchased Mr. Schwinn’s store.

When the United States entered the war, Mr. Barth sold the store with the intention of entering the service. He was disappointed; however, as he was past the age limit and he did not enter business again.

Mr. Barth was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. M.J. Ford and Mrs. Joseph Schwinn, both of Sioux City.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Mrs. Ford’s home. Interment will be in Floyd Cemetery.

“Fritz” Barth

Funeral services for Frederick (Fritz) Barth, a resident of Sioux City for nearly half a century, who died Monday at the home of his sister, Mrs. M.J. Ford, 1113 Virginia Street, will be held this afternoon at 2 o’clock at Mrs. Ford’s home. Rev. E.H. Gaynor will officiate. Interment will be in Floyd Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Palmquist, Ed Johnson, John Manderscheid, Nick Pauley, John Ford and Frank Smades.
