Barbara Sue Risdal, 66, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018, at her eldest son's home. She was surrounded by her husband, Don, her children, Robert, Troy, Hailie, and Trevor, as well as close family.

Her life will be celebrated with a open house at 4 p.m. on May 27, at 31465 West Horse Lake Drive in Sioux City for all that wish to pay their respects. There will be plenty of food and the margaritas will be too strong. That's what mom would have wanted. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

In everything she did, she was strong to the point of being stubborn. She lived eight years past her life expectancy. She somehow also endured burying three of her seven children, Denise, Nick, and Heath, with all of whom she's finally reunited. Her favorite things were her grandchildren, Days of Our Lives, and spending the last 20 years complaining about not being able to catch a single fish. She devoted her life to caring for others as a wife, mother, nurse, and an in-home daycare provider for more than 30 years. Her most important role came from being a supportive military spouse to her husband who served 34 years, and military mother to her children, who have a combined total of more than 58 years of service.
