Mrs. Gertie Louisa Sawin 1868 - 1939

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertie Louisa Sawin, 70, Smithland, Iowa, who died in a Sioux City hospital Friday, were conducted Monday afternoon in the Catholic Church at Smithland. Rev. Garner Osborn, Methodist pastor of the Federated church of Smithland which recently burned officiated.

Buried was in the Oto, Iowa, cemetery under the direction of Hudgel’s Funeral Home of Anthon, Iowa.

Born April 16, 1868, in Adrian, Michigan, Mrs. Sawin was married to Joseph Sawin in 1890 in Smithland and had lived there since. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Daughters of Union Veterans.

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Dessa Dolan, Hollywood, California, Mrs. Letha Burke, Danbury, Iowa and Miss Blelva Sawin, Oto; four sons, Clifford of LeMars, Iowa, Myrle, Frank and Martin of Oto and Myrvin of Whiting; a brother and four sisters.
