Douglas D. Davis, 67, of Sioux City died Friday, July 8, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a nine-month battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dan Davis, O.P. officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Mr. Dennis Davis officiating, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Douglas Dwight Davis was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Sioux City, the son of Dwight W. and Helen R. (Murphy) Davis. He graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grade School and later graduated from Heelan High School in 1955. He attended St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minn.

He married Carol Jolin on April 15, 1961, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a lifetime resident of Sioux City. He was owner of A.M. Davis Insurance Co., which he sold when he retired.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was a 40-plus year member of the Boy Scouts of America as a volunteer. Doug enjoyed backpacking, hunting and fishing. He loved his fifth-wheel camper and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Davis of Sioux City; a son, Steven D. and his wife, Denise Davis of Estherville, Iowa; a daughter, Victoria J. and her husband, Brian Keeney of Hartford, Iowa; three brothers, Duane A. and his wife, Linda Davis of Dakota Dunes, S.D., the Rev. Daniel C. Davis, O.P. of West Lafayette, Ind., and Dennis L. Davis of South Sioux City; and eight grandchildren, Jesse, Stefanie, Beau, Elizabeth and Gabriel Davis, Austin, Payton and Katelyn Keeney.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Patrick Allan Davis.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Myers, Eldon Thompson, Kenny Potts, Don Hauge, Ron Rachuy and Rich Olson.
