James M. Beavers, 88, and Vera G. Beavers, 85, of Junction City, Kan., formerly of Siouxland, died within a day of each other in Junction City.

Services for the couple will be 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Junction City with Pastor Gerald Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Mr. Beavers died Friday, July 8, 2005, at his home. Mrs. Beavers died Saturday, July 9, 2005, at Geary Community Hospital. James Beavers and Vera (Anderson) Goodwin were married April 15, 1942, in Crookston, Minn.

Mr. Beavers was born Dec. 25, 1916, at Jefferson, S.D., the son of Raleigh E. and Dorothea J. (Mohr) Beavers. He worked on the family farm for some years, then in the dairy industry for 44-and-a-half years, retiring from Westside Dairy in Junction City in 1980. During World War II, Mr. Beavers served three years as an Army sergeant in North Africa, Italy and Germany.

Mr. Beavers was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge for 50 years, Scottish Rite, York Rite and Isis Temple. He was a past worthy patron of the Eastern Star, a past commander of the Legion of Honor and past commander of the Junction City/Fort Riley Shrine Club.

Mrs. Beavers was born Feb. 21, 1920, at Obert, Neb., the daughter of Gustave A. and Elizabeth (Bergman) Anderson. She was raised in Hartington, Neb. During World War II, she worked at the Naval Munitions Depot in Hastings, Neb. Mrs.Beavers was a homemaker for many years and in 1967 began at Good Samaritan Home as nurse's aide and became their first activity director, retiring in 1982. Mrs. Beavers was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past worthy matron of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherril Proctor and Judy Houston of Junction City and Kathy Sanchez and her husband, Eugene, of Oakland, Calif.; two sons and their wives, David and Mary of Hastings and Roger and Sharon of Felton, Del.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Beavers is also survived by two brothers and their wives, Harvey and Bev of Saint George, Utah, and Blaine and Bea of Jefferson.

Mr. and Mrs. Beavers were preceded in death by their parents; a grandchild; her sister, Katie Larson of Hastings; and two sons-in-law, Henry Houston and Claude Proctor of Junction City.
