Sioux City, formerly Des Moines, Iowa

Susan L. Potter Nail, 69, of Sioux City, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018, at Casa De Paz Healthcare Center in Sioux City.

A memorial service to celebrate Sue's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Casa De Paz, 2121 W. 19th St.

Sue was a pioneer in the computer industry, serving as a public relations director of CE Software in Des Moines. She was one of the early leaders of America Online (AOL) helping to shape their online chat environment. Later, Sue worked for Gateway Computers of Sioux City, serving as a public relations director and was instrumental in the launch of the Destination PC product line. She is remembered as a fun-loving coworker and leader by her professional colleagues from both the Mac and PC industries.

Sue loved spending time with her family, extended family, online friends, and her faithful canine companions. Her home with Bill on the Missouri River brought her much peace and happiness. She found great joy in raising and spending time with her son, Brian, and in being a devoted grandmother to her beloved Madelyn. Sue will always be remembered for her sense of humor and the way in which she opened her heart and home; a stranger was truly just a friend she hadn’t met yet.

Susan was born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Warren and Barbara (Fitz) Potter. She is survived by and lovingly remembered by her husband, Bill Billings, her son, Brian Nail, and her granddaughter, Madelyn Nail, all of Sioux City; a sister, Debra Potter of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Bruce Potter and his wife, Bonnie of Waterloo, Iowa; a nephew, Jesse (Melissa) Potter of Omaha. Neb.; a niece, Emily (Chris) Reppe of Waukee, Iowa; five great nephews and nieces; an aunt, Rhea (Rich) Steenblock of Belmond, Iowa; and her extended family of cousins, in-laws, friends and colleagues.

Memorial donations in memory of Susan may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215
