Jamie Renee Laass, 48, of South Sioux City, passed away at her home Tuesday, April 10, 2018, of lung cancer diagnosed in January 2017.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Becker Hunt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be given at www.beckerhuntfuneralhome.com.

Jamie was born on Dec. 17, 1969, in Somerville, N.J., the daughter of Herman and Peggy Laass. She moved to Nebraska in 1970 with her family. She grew up in Gothenburg, then moved to Audubon, Iowa, where she spent her senior year of high school, graduating with the class of 1988. She attended Stewart's College of Hair Design in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and later received training as a certified nursing assistant and ultimately a certified nedical assistant. She loved caring for Alzheimer's patients and worked in several facilities in Omaha before moving to South Sioux City in 1997. She was employed by Tri-State Nursing and Siouxland Community Health Center. She last worked for Avera of Yankton, S.D.

On Aug. 7, 1999, she married David McFarlin. They were later divorced. In her spare time, she enjoyed motorcycle rides, vacations, restaurant dining, and attending Husker games.

Survivors include her daughter, Stevie Long; parents, Herman Laass, and Peggy and Darrel Muzney; brothers, Jeff Laass and Gary Williams; sisters, Karen M. Laass and Debra Williams; stepbrothers, Randy Muzney, Ethan Muzney, and Cass Muzney; stepsisters, Peggy Jo Ott, Stephanie Muzney, Kylee Hiveley, and Liberty Davidson; nieces, Stephanie Totten, Caitlin (Mason) Neimeyer, and Lauren Laass; nephew, Richie Lewis; sister-in-law, Karen I. Laass; aunts, Beth Hendershot, Joanne Kniss, Elaine Chach and Angie Lewis; uncles, Vincent Scarponi and Ken Williams; many cousins; and best friend of 26 years, Maria Long.

She was preceded in death by her 10-year-old son, David Paul McFarlin in 2010; her stepfather, Richard Williams; stepmother, Barbara Jean Laass; her grandparents, Paul and Ruth Herman, Herman and Helen Laass and Violet Williams; an aunt, Michele Scarponi; an uncle, Michael Chach; and two cousins, Kristi Nichols and Anna Scarponi.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Laass, Gary Williams, Randy Muzney, Cass Muzney, Robert Ehlers and Ethan Ehlers.
