Michael Paul Francis, 77, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, with the Rev. Terry A. Roder officiating. Refreshments will be offered following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date.

Mike was born on July 12, 1940, in Sioux City, to John and Elizabeth (Farley) Francis. He graduated from Central High School in 1959. Mike enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1965.

He married Judith Roepke on Dec. 28, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. Mike worked for various railroad companies in the Sioux City area over the years, retiring as a car and wrecking foreman after more than 20 years. Following retirement, he continued to work at various places in Sioux City.

Mike was an avid vegetable and flower gardener and loved working on his landscape. He enjoyed watching and feeding the wildlife that would often visit their yard. Mike loved to travel and take care of his family. He had a great sense of humor and a sharp wit.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; children, M. Shawn (Cheri) Francis and Laurie Francis, all of Sioux City; grandchildren, Tony, Scott, William and Christine; great-grandson, James; stepgrandchildren, Nate and Mackensie; three nephews; and one niece.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim; and sister, Pat.
