Chris A."Greek" Kounas, 73, of Sioux City, died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at a local hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Luke Melackrinos officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by United States Marines Crops and American Legion Post 64 following services. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a Trisagion Service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Chris was born on Feb. 2, 1945, in Sioux City, the son of Andrew and Evelyn (Stavropoulos) Kounas. He was raised in the South Bottoms of Sioux City. Chris attended Sioux City Schools and Western Iowa Tech, majoring in accounting. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966.

Chris was a route driver for Old Home Bread Company and worked at A&A Industrial Coatings, both for many years. He was a member of the Elk's Lodge 112 and the American Legion. Chris was also a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, where he was once a past president.

Chris loved gardening tomatoes, and giving them away.

He married Cheryl Hanner on Dec. 31, 1998, at the Church of All Nations.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; stepchildren, Ramona (Greg) Carlson of Cherokee, Iowa, Ora (Chris) Dixon of Sioux City, and David (Becky) Burns of Cushing, Iowa; grandchildren, Preslee (Tim) Fry, Kendra Burns, Jordan Weaver, Charlie Ann Carlson, Ben Dixon, AJ Burns, and Caleb Burns; great-grandchild, Karter Fry; sisters, Anna Kounas, Sophia (Dale) Milbrodt and Catherine (John) Sutherland; brothers, John (Karen) Kounas, Nick (Sharon) Kounas, and George (Dolly) Kounas; and many nieces and nephews. Chris is also survived by his puppy, BooBoo.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donnie and Mike; sisters, Despi and Nicoleta; and niece, Connie
