Marvin Lee Simons, 90, of South Sioux City, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point, S.D., with the Rev. Erik Olsen officiating. Burial will follow the service in Elk Point Cemetery, with military honors conducted by V.F.W. and American Legion Post 134. Visitation with family present will be 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Kober Funeral Home of Elk Point. Condolences may be posted online at www.koberfuneralhome.com.

Marvin Lee was born on May 25, 1927, to Court and Isabelle (Burke) Simons. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 and was discharged in 1948.

He married Donna Mae Rosenbaum on Jan. 10, 1953. They made their home in South Sioux City, and were blessed with six children, Marlen, Lonnie, Rick, Starla, Tamara and Shawn. Donna preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 1999.

He was a self-employed roofer for many years. He had many talents. When he was not working, he spent endless hours fishing, hunting, and riding motorcycles in his younger years. He was a type of a guy who loved being outdoors and loved going on vacations with his family.

He is survived by his six children, Marlen Simons, Lonnie (Joyce) Simons, all of South Sioux City, Rick (Edie) Simons and Starla (Robbie) Engel, all of Sioux City, Tamara (Jeffrey) Holtz of Palm City, Fla., and Shawn (Shelly) Simons of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Corrine Granger of Mitchell, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Mae; his parents; four brothers; six sisters; and two grandchildren.
