Aletha E. Sensanbaugh, 87, of Jenison, formerly of Sioux City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 9, 2018.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 612 Jennings St., in Sioux City, with the Rev. Leland Schmidt officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

Aletha Eda Katherine Schubert Sensanbaugh was born on Aug. 24, 1930, in Lester, Iowa, to Elvin and Katherine (LaFrenz) Schubert. She grew up in Lester and graduated from Lester Public School in 1948. After earning her teacher certification from Western Union (later Westmar) in the summer of 1948, Aletha began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Lyon County, Iowa at the age of 18.

Later, while teaching in Hull, Iowa, she met fellow teacher and future husband, Robert "Bob" Sensanbaugh. They married on Aug. 15, 1954 in Lester. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1957. Aletha continued her education at night, weekends, and summers, while still teaching and graduated with her bachelor's degree from Morningside College. Aletha taught for more than 30 years before retiring from Sioux City Public Schools in 1993.

Aletha was a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was involved with the altar guild, the church library, and Mr. and Mrs. Club. She was also a member of the Siouxland Sewing Guild. Aletha and Bob loved to travel and had been to all 50 states and Europe. Aletha also enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, playing cards, and hosting Camp Grandma in the summers for her granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Bob; her children, Cindy (John) Wycoff of Haslett, Mich., Craig Sensanbaugh of Austin, Texas, Connie Sensanbaugh-Stearns (Ron) of Fairfield, Iowa, and Cristy Sensanbaugh-Sauter (Karl) of Allendale, Mich.; five granddaughters, Stephanie Milosavlevski, Shanna Novosel, Sarah Dalton, Katherine Sauter, and Elizabeth Sauter; four great-grandchildren, Cole, Carter, and Caleb Dalton, and Ryan Novosel; brother, Donald Schubert; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Merlyn Schubert and Lorenz Schubert; and a sister, Evelyn Genrich.
