Dawnyel Marie Kleinschmidt, 44, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at a local hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dakota Dunes. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Dawn was born on July 17, 1973, in Sioux City, the daughter of Steven and Rebecca (Saunders) Nelson. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1991 and attended Western Iowa Tech Community College, Bellevue University, and Wayne State College, receiving her bachelor's degree in adult education.

Dawn married Jeremy Kleinschmidt on June 22, 2002, in Sioux City. She worked at Gateway and then for the Winnebago Dental Clinic as a dental technician from 2011 to 2016. Dawn then became a full-time instructor for the dental technician program at Western Iowa Tech Community College.

She enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be in her garden or camping, and loved quilting, crafting, and photography. Her greatest love was spending time with her family. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where she was the chairman of the evangelism committee.

Survivors include her husband, Jeremy; children, Isaiah Nelson, Jessica Kleinschmidt, and Brenden Kleinschmidt; parents, Steve and Rebecca Nelson of South Sioux City; mother-in-law, DeLoris Kleinschmidt of Sioux City; sister, Jaime Woodard of Bonney Lake, Wash.; grandmother, H. Darline Saunders; brothers and sisters-in-law, Matt (Connie) Kleinschmidt and Vicky (Jerry) Behrens; uncles and several aunts; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Matthew R. Kleinschmidt; brother-in-law, Erron Woodard; sister-in-law, Kathy Lafferty; paternal grandparents, Victor E. and Dorothy Nelson; and maternal grandfather, Theodore J. Saunders.

Memorials may be given in Dawn's memory to the Jeremy Kleinschmidt Benefit at Iowa Nebraska State Bank.
