Susan Carol Shacka, 60, of Sioux City, formerly of Council Bluffs, died on Jan. 23, 2018, at a nursing home in Sioux City.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cutler-O'Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs.

Susan was born on Nov. 26, 1957, to Edna Molgaard Shacka and Frank Shacka, in Anchorage, Alaska, while Frank was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base. The Air Force created another move for the family to Blytheville, Ark., and then finally back to Council Bluffs, where her father had his last assignment at Offutt Air Force Base.

Susan graduated from Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs in 1976, and then from a secretarial school in Omaha. She moved to California in 1982, and worked for several different companies as an executive assistant, including a doctor's office, a hotel and a real estate company. She moved back to Council Bluffs in 2012 to be closer to family, and then to Sioux City in 2014.

She loved her cat, Annie, loved to watch cooking shows, and taking pictures. She became most passionate about a Facebook page she set up to help other people with Ataxia.

Susan is survived by her sister, Mary (Shacka) Madsen and brother-in-law, Dave Madsen of Sioux City; nephew, Michael Madsen of San Antonio, Texas; and niece, Christine (Madsen) Kluender of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials made be made in Susan's name to your local humane society, as Susan was always fond of her pets.
