Father David J. Hogan, 77, formerly of Fort Dodge, died on November 14, 2006, at Holy Spirit Nursing Home in Sioux City.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, November 17th at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge. A Knights of Columbus rosary was slated for 6:30 p.m. and a Christian wake service was planned for 7 p.m., all at the church.

The funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 18th at Corpus Christi.

Father David Hogan was born on April 15, 1929, to the late Austin and Dorothy (Flynn) Hogan in Fort Dodge. He attended Corpus Christi School in Fort Dodge and Loras Academy of Dubuque for two years before graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High school. He attended Fort Dodge Junior College and earned a bachelor’s degree from University Notre Dame. He attended Immaculate Conception Seminary in Conception, Missouri, and earned a Master’s degree in education from Creighton University.

Father Hogan was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Joseph Mueller on June 4, 1955. During his priesthood, Father Hogan served at St. Mary’s Parish and School. Remsen; Sacred Heart Hospital, LeMars, St. Joseph High School and Parish, Granville; Gehlen Catholic School and St. James Parish, LeMars; St. Margaret’s, Rolfe, Pocahontas Catholic High School, St. Joseph’s, Bode; St. Mary’s, Alton, Nativity, Sioux City; Resurrection of Our Lord, Pocahontas and his final assignment was at St. Mary’s, Danbury. He retired on July 18, 2000.

Father Hogan was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Austin Hogan, Jr.

Survivors include his sister Patricia Steiner of Chicago, brother Joseph Hogan of Las Vegas, brother Brian Hogan of Coto de Caza, California and step-mother Irene Hogan of Fort Dodge.
