Mark Fabian Chicoine, 95, of Elk Point, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital. He was surrounded by family.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Point, with Mark's grandson, Rev. Kevin Vogel, officiating along with Rev. Jeff Norfolk. Burial will be in Elk Point Cemetery. Visitation with family will be 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Kober Funeral Home in Elk Point. Mark was born on April 25, 1922, at home near Jefferson, S.D., to Edmond and Luella (Limoges) Chicoine. He graduated from Elk Point High School in 1940. He began farming with his father after graduation.

On June 12, 1950, Mark married Barbara Berger in Flasher, N.D. They continued farming near Elk Point for many years, where they raised 11 children. Mark worked at Armour Packing House in the 1950s while continuing to farm. Mark retired on the farm and still resided at his farm home at the time of his death.

Mark served on the Lewison Ditch Board for many years and also served several years on the Richland School Board. Mark was a loving husband and father. His children were his pride and joy. He had a strong faith in God and was a generous man. He faced many challenges in farming and enjoyed overcoming them.

Mark is survived by his wife of 67 years and seven months, Barbara; 11 children, Vincent (Jeanette) Chicoine of Sioux City, Carol (Kenneth) Vogel of Clarkson, Neb., Eileen (Steve Quynh) Nguyen of Port Arthur, Texas; Lucille (Robert) Vondrak of Merrill, Iowa, Mark E. (Rita) Chicoine of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Pauline (Frederick) Moreau of Vermillion, S.D., Kellen (Julie) Chicoine of Reedsburg, Wis., Joseph Chicoine of Elk Point, Myron (Molly) Chicoine of Spencer, Iowa, Galen (Julie) Chicoine of Terril, Iowa, and Anne (Scott) Ditter of Baltic, S.D.; 32 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Monica Olson of Eagle Bend, Minn., Joan Wick of Hermiston, Ore., and Julian (Mary) Chicoine of Newark, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Chicoine of Ankeny, Iowa.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Luella Chicoine; sister, Madonna Kayl Blomberg; brother, Cletus Chicoine; and brothers-in-law, Chester Wick, George Olson, Herbert Kayl and William Blomberg.
