Arlene M. Kjeldseth, 91, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, at a local care facility.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Roger Madden will officiate. Private graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Arlene was born on Nov. 4, 1926, in Yankton, S.D., the daughter of Arly "Chet" and Millie (Downs) Chapman. Arlene grew up in Yankton and graduated from Yankton High School and then attended Yankton College.

On Jan. 17, 1948, Arlene married C. Kenneth "Ken" Kjeldseth in Yankton. He passed away on April 21, 2007 in Sioux City.

Arlene was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was very active in the Sioux City community having served as president of the Sioux City Women's Symphony, Siouxland Mental Health, St. Luke's Auxiliary, P.E.O. Chapter MK, Emerson Study Club and the Sioux Trails Girl Scouts. She was also a member of TTT Chapter AC.

Arlene had served for more than 8,500 hours as a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, especially caps for the preemie babies at St. Luke's. Arlene also enjoyed cooking, baking and playing bridge.

Survivors include two sons, Craig Kjeldseth of Los Angeles, Calif., and Kevin Kjeldseth and his wife, Terri of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Jodie Calhoun and her husband, Dan and Kayla Kjeldseth; and two great-granddaughters, Kelsie and Kathryn.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ken; her daughter, Jan Thomas and her husband, Kyle; and a sister, MacRee McFarland and her husband, Winnie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church or the PEO Organization for a scholarship fund care of First United Methodist Church
