Chris P. Godbersen, 68, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul C. Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Chris P. Godbersen was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Washta, Iowa, the son of Christian P. and Alvena (Cohrt) Godbersen. Chris resided in Sioux City for the majority of his life. He was employed with Needham Packing Company for 16 years. Later, he did construction work.

He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church. Chris enjoyed gardening, playing cards, listening to polka music and playing the accordion.

Survivors include four children, Marty Godbersen of Sioux City, Andy Godbersen of Sioux City, Melinda and her husband, James Flanders, of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Peter McDermot of Sioux City; a sister, Lucille Elvendahl of Minneapolis, Minn; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Arlene Scott and Marlene Fick.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Lisa Hollowell, Katrina Flanders, Candace Godbersen, Rachael Godbersen, Travis Godbersen and Nathan Flanders. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Allie Flanders, Abby Flanders and Dominique Hollowell.
