Dr. Lewis J. Dimsdale, 96, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a former longtime Sioux City physician, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, in Fort Lauderdale.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Dr. Lewis J. Dimsdale was born, July 31, 1908, in Sioux City, the son of Joseph and Esther (Lipman) Dimsdale. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School. He served for four years in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Subsequent to the end of the World War II, he returned to Sioux City to establish a private practice in internal medicine for 30 years.

He married Phyllis Green on Oct. 22, 1939, in Omaha. Following his retirement, the couple moved to Fort Lauderdale.

He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, was a fellow in the American College of Cardiology, was elected to the board of Regent as a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and was a member of the American Trudeau Society. He was also a fellow of the American Geriatrics Society and very active on the Lutheran Hospital board in Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Phyllis of Fort Lauderdale; a daughter and her husband, Betty and Bob Krueger of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; a son, Roger Dimsdale of Washington D.C.; a son and his wife, Dr. Joel and Nancy Dimsdale of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren, Craig Krueger, Scott Krueger, Mindy Krueger Geisser, Jonathan Dimsdale and Jan Dimsdale Rainey; and his great-grandchildren, Ethan and Oliver Krueger, Liam Geisser and triplets Rachel, Joshua and Eden Geisser and Charlotte Rainey.

Pallbearers will be Scott Krueger, Craig Krueger, Adam Geisser, Dr. William Ziebell, Dr. Kenneth Keane, David Levin, Milton Glazer, Tom Vaughan and Dr. John Tiedeman.

Donations may be made in memory of Lewis Dimsdale to the University of Iowa Medical School in Iowa City, Iowa attention to the Department of Cardiology.
