Anna H. Michalak, 98, of Sioux City died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at her home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Santa Clara, Calif. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Anna was born in Mt. Carmel, Pa. on Sept. 21, 1906, the daughter of John and Susan (Wejtek) Kollar. She went to grade school in Detroit, Mich. and moved to Redding, Pa., as a young lady.

She married Charles Michalak on June 20, 1923, in Redding. The family owned and operated a grocery store in Redding until they moved to San Jose, Calif. in 1947. In San Jose, they owned and operated Charlie's Market until 1967. Charles died on Dec. 11, 1979, in San Jose. Anna remained in San Jose until 1983, when she moved to Sioux City.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Siouxland Senior Center. Anna was an avid reader and she did crocheting, knitting and was known for her baking, especially her pies. While in San Jose, she taught C.C.D. for St. Martin's Catholic Church. The things that were most important to her were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the rest of her family.

Survivors include two sons, Robert W. Michalak and Jack Michalak and his wife, Mary, all of Sioux City; five grandchildren, William, Susan, Kathleen, Laura and Jeff Michalak; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Edward; a grandson, Ken; three brothers, Joe, Bill and Frank Kollar; and a sister, Susan Sinibaldi.

A memorial has been established in Anna's name for the Siouxland Regional Cancer Center.
