Luther L. Lange, 80, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Offutt Air Force Base honor guard. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Lange was born Feb. 16, 1924, in Wall Lake, Iowa, the son of William and Katherine (Weitzel) Lange. He graduated from Lake View High School. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and with the Sioux City 185th Air National Guard during the Korean War.

He married Darlene M. Oswald on May 23, 1946, in Breda, Iowa. He had been a resident of Sioux City since 1943. He was a salesman with Getz Buick for several years. Later, he worked for Bekins Furniture. Darlene preceded him in death on May 29, 1993, in Sioux City.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sioux City Eagles, where he was a past president and served on the board of trustees, the American Legion and the Boys of 68. He enjoyed spending time on the water and was an avid fisherman. He also loved being with friends and spending his winters in Texas.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Randy and Barb Lange of Sioux City; three daughters, Susan Zortman of Sioux City, Lori and her husband, Thaddeus Wiedemeier of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Mary Kay and her husband, Willie Irwin of Jefferson, S.D.; a special friend, Eloise McAndrews of Sioux City; a brother, Kenneth Lange of Gardenia, Calif.; two sisters, Lois Erstine of Stuttgart, Ark., and Shirley Blair of Peoria, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Lange; and a granddaughter, Valerie Wiedemeier.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Chad Irwin, Thaddeus Wiedemeier II, Lee Wiedemeier, Benjamin Wiedemeier, Jacob Wiedemeier and Lee Lange.
