Mildred L. Wermes, 80, of Sioux City died Friday, January 14, 2000 at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller of Goodwill Industries officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wermes was born February 13, 1919 at Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of William and Clara (Bell) Horsley.

She married Clarence J. Wermes on June 5, 1937 at Cherokee, Iowa.

She worked at Windcharger/Zenith and also at Dura-Pak, retiring in the mid 1970’s. She and her husband ran the Rock Street Bait Shop from 1958-1982. Her husband died on May 14, 1995 in Sioux City.

Survivors include two sons, Martin and his wife, Nancy of South Sioux City and Terry of Sioux City, a sister, Fern Lee of Sergeant Bluff, four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Pallbearers will be Danny, David and Jerry Wermes, Jim, Jeff, John and Jason Utterback.
