Smithland, Iowa -- Christian Christensen, 79, Smithland, died Monday at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Willman Funeral Home in Rodney. The Rev. Dale Church will officiate. Burial will be in Smithland Little Sioux Township Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Mr. Christensen was born May 24, 1901, at Sommersted, Denmark. He came to the United States in 1922.

He married Gladys Andrews July 10, 1928. They farmed in the Mapleton area. After he discontinued farming, he worked for the Monona County Soil Conservation Office. The couple moved to Smithland 10 years ago.

Mrs. Christensen died March 19, 1979.

Mr. Christensen was a member of the United Church of Christ and Quarry Lodge 404, AF&AM, both at Mapleton.

Survivors include three sons, Walter of Denver, Colorado, Arnold of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and Chris of Aurora, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Romona Wiley of Glenwood Springs, Colorado and Mrs. Ja Nene Jackson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
