Service Held For Mrs. Edwin Claus

Jennie Anna Callaghan was born to Charles and Elizabeth Callaghan on January 12, 1894 at Oto and died June 12 at an Onawa hospital.

She married Edwin Claus on December 17, 1914 at Oto. The couple resided in the Smithland area for 57 years before moving from a farm into the community in 1944.

She was a member of the German City Church of Christ and the Women’s Fellowship.

Survivors include the Widower; and three daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Mildred) Hagan of Spring Valley, California, Mrs. Vernon (Lenora) Burkhart of Smithland and Mrs. Darrell (Edalene) McNutt of Castana and two sons, Clemance of Smithland and Richard of Solvang, California; thirteen grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Herman (Minnie) Eichhhorn of Sioux City and a brother, Carl Callaghan of Smithland.

Funeral services were held on June 15, 1976 at 10:30 a.m. in the German City Church of Christ with Rev. Martin Knudson officiating.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Richard Burkhart, Kent Claus, Duane Johnson, Chuck Oddo, Jerry Hasbrouck and Ed Burkhart.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

There was a prayer service at 8 p.m. at the Willman Funeral Home in Rodney on Monday evening.
