Charles Callaghan, 73, member of the town council at Smithland, died Monday at his home as the result of a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the German City rural church with Rev. W. Kramme officiating. The Willman Funeral Home of Rodney is in charge.

Mr. Callaghan was born March 29, 1865 in New York and came to Woodbury County with his parents at the age of 4. He had been a residence of Smithland and vicinity ever since. For many years he engaged in farming near that place, retiring in 1928 and moving into town.

In 1891 he married Elizabeth Weber who survives him.

Other survivors include two sons, Carl and Earl of Oto; two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Eichorn of Hornick and Mrs. Jennie Claus of Smithland; two brothers, James of Oto and Will of Smithland and a sister, Mrs. Kate Daudy of Hornick.
