Donald L. “Bob” Verschoor, 84, of Sioux City died Friday, December 31, 1999 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Greving officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Neptune, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Verschoor was born May 10, 1915 in Archer, Iowa, the son of Peter and Blanche (Wetmore) Verschoor. He received his General Education Degree. He was raised in Hospers, Iowa, where he was employed with his father and uncle at Verschoor Meats in Hospers. He was then employed with Wells Dairy in LeMars, Iowa.

He married Kathryn A. Dunn on May 10, 1939 in LeMars. The couple lived in Auburn and Sheldon, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1952. He was employed with various meat packing plants in Sioux City. In 1969, the couple moved to Nevis, Minn., where they owned and operated In We Go Resort until 1974. They returned to Sioux City in 1978.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a former member of Nativity Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus and their Calix Society. He enjoyed fishing, basketball, baseball and cooking.

Survivors include his wife, a son and his wife, Donald L. Jr. and Susan of Sioux City; four daughters, Patricia Besett of Sioux City, Barbara Verschoor of Sioux City, Gloria and her husband, Marvin Brincks of Alta Vista, Iowa and Debora and her husband, Roger Plumley of Nevis; three brothers and their wives, Irvin and Dorothy of Minnesota, Bernard and Judy of Sioux City and Tony and Joanne of Fort Madison, Iowa; two sisters, Anna Peterson of Sioux City and Florence and her husband, Bill Kwikkel of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, Rob Besett, Tricia Besett-Alesch, Russell Brincks, Serek and Megan Sullivan, Ryne Verschoor, Aimee Netteberg, Melissa and Kathryn Plumley and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, two brothers and a grandson, Thomas Michael Besett.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

A memorial has been established in his name.
