Ellen Julienne Constance (Limoges) Melton, 95 years, 8 months, 2 days, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Pioneer Valley Living and Rehab in Sergeant Bluff.

Per her wishes, the body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Saturday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ellen was born on Dec. 16, 1921, in Vermillion, S.D., the daughter of Joe and Josephine (Danderand) Limoges. Ellen grew up in Jefferson, S.D.

Ellen married James L. Melton on Jan. 16, 1938. They had three children. Ellen was a wonderful homemaker and caregiver, taking care of both her mother and father until their deaths.

Ellen enjoyed going to the local casinos and riding around Sioux City every year at Christmas time to look at all the decorations with her daughter Olivia. She loved going to Miles Inn for a schooner of beer and a Charlie Boy with her daughter Barbara, who according to Ellen really knows how to party. Ellen loved spending time with her son James. Every Wednesday was Wal-Mart shopping day. She had an eye for bargains and sometimes shopped for hours wearing Jim completely out, but he loved it. Ellen loved playing cards with her family. Her grandson David would pick her up and off they would go to shoot the moon, her personal best three times in one night.

A very special thanks to Connie Nelson for all the wonderful times they shared together. She loved you like a sister.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Wahl of Platte City, Mo., Olivia (Robert) VanMaanen of Sioux City, and James (Mona) Melton of North Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Randy Verdoorn, Mark Verdoorn, Carrie Jaben, Nicole Wahl, Brenda Moravek, Linda Lopez, David VanMaanen Jr., Dennis Van Maanen, Margaret Riley, and Paula Streeter; 25 great-grandchildren, Chase Verdoorn, Cheyenne Verdoorn, Max Jaben, Miles Jaben, Raymond Verdoorn, Jenna Verdoorn, Nina Hollonder, Talia Alvarez, Allison Moravek, Ashley Moravek, Natalie Van Maanen, David Van Maanen III, Kayla VanMaanen, Hunter VanMaanen, David Van Maanen, Jacob VanMaanen, Ryan VanMaanen, Rachael VanMaanen, Abby VanMaanen, Shane Vincent, Shaun Vincent, Jessica Riley, Trista Wermes, Joshua Moreno, and Desirae Streeter; and nine great-great-grandchildren, Ethan Vincent, Allison Vincent, Aubrey Wermes, Addison Wermes, Alaya Moreno, Bradyn Van Maanen, Mila Jaben, Morley Jaben, and Kai Jaben.
