Mary Kay Fustos, 73, of South Sioux City, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.

The family will be holding a remembrance for Mary Kay at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Dance Pavilion on Larson Park Road in Sioux City. Guests should bring a folding chair and appropriate beverages if they wish. Flowers may be sent to Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City IA 51104.

Mary Kay (Sollazzo) Fustos, was born on Nov. 26, 1943, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to August Sollazzo and Mary Margaret (Sherman) Sollazzo. She was raised in Underwood, Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1962. Mary Kay then married Larry Fustos later that year.

In her youth, Mary Kay was an avid roller-skater. In 1970, she and Larry moved to South Sioux City to take over management of the then Thacker Roller Rink. She operated Siouxland Arena from 1970 until her divorce in 1976 with Larry. She then continued operation of the rink until 1982 with her longtime friend and business partner, David Soelberg. The pair also owned and operated the Palace (pizza) restaurant on Dakota Avenue in South Sioux City from 1978 to 1979. Mary Kay also worked at Hungry's Restaurant from 1985 to 1992. She finished her career with Gateway Computers as a technical support associate in 1995.

Mary Kay enjoyed genealogy, sewing, gardening and cooking. Recently, she was involved with the Siouxland Arena Nostalgia Skating group organizing reunions and other events.

Survivors include her children, Marc Fustos of Sioux City, and Bruce and Sharon Fustos of Papillion, Neb.; three grandchildren, Gerraid, Nicole, and Emily; siblings, Jim and Nancy Sollazzo, Gail and Jeanne Sollazzo, and Beth and Al Samaroo; and best friend, David Soelberg.

Her sister, Virginia Crowder, preceded her in death.
