Bethel J. Nettleton, 92, of Sioux City, passed into the arms of her loving Savior Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mark Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Halaas will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Bethel was born on Jan. 16, 1925, in Sioux City, the daughter of Samuel and Helga (Bowman) Forsling. She lived in Sioux City her entire life. Bethel graduated from Central High School with the class of 1943. She was Homecoming Queen of her senior class. She then attended Morningside College and was Sioux Queen of 1945.

While attending Morningside College, she met her future husband, Guy Nettleton. They were married on Aug. 24, 1946. To this union three children were born, David, Richard and Lori.

Bethel was a stay at home mom for 17 years. She returned to Morningside College, where she worked as support staff for the next 20 years. She worked as department secretary for the Financial Aid Department, Student Services and the Nursing Department. Upon her retirement, Bethel received the Order of Morningside Honorary Award.

She was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. She served many years as a Sunday School teacher and she attended Thursday morning Bible Study. Bethel was a member of the Young at Heart Sr. Group, Library Committee, Piece Maker Quilters, Sioux City Women's Club, Round Table Study Club and the Scandinavian Societies. Bethel enjoyed getting together with family and friends, reading, crossword puzzles, oil painting, and walking, especially to view the sunsets. Bethel loved the beauty of the earth.

Survivors include her children, David Nettleton (Sherry) of Sioux City, and Lori Engler (James) of Holdrege, Neb.; daughter-in-law, MaryLynn Nettleton of Sergeant Bluff; 10 grandchildren, Dan Nettleton (Tiffany), Steve Nettleton (Deidre), Leisa Nettleton (Keith), Rich Nettleton, Bob Nettleton (Tiffany), Molly Young (Kelsey), Sarah Avery (Ryan), Guy Nettleton (Shoko), Mindy Pelster (Mike), and Matt Engler (Stacie); and 28 great-grandchildren.

Bethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy; a son, Richard Nettleton; and her brother, Warren Forsling.
