Vivian Joyce McCormick, 91, of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at a local hospital.

Funeral services and a Daughters of the Nile service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. A private burial service will be later that afternoon in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 8 to 11 a.m. Monday, with the family present at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

She was born July 23, 1926, in Anthon, Iowa, rural Woodbury County, to Peter J. Behrens and Laura M. (Madsen) Behrens. She was raised in the Anthon vicinity, attended rural school, and graduated from Anthon Public School in 1943. Following graduation, she spent the summer in Rock Island, Ill., working in the Requisition Office at the Rock Island Arsenal. She attended Wayne State College before entering nurses training at St. Vincent School of Nursing as a cadet nurse during World War II, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1947.

On June 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to Albert A. McCormick at First United Methodist Church in Anthon. Following her marriage, she worked at the hospital for a short time and then worked for a group of physicians for several years. She was also active in the family business, Speedy Auto Wash, until it was sold in April 2015.

Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, the outdoors, and traveling, especially on cruises. She was a 50-year member of the former White Shrine of Jerusalem, a 50-year member of Rose Croix Eastern Star, Hathor Temple Daughters of the Nile, PEO Chapter IL, and Abu Bekr Shrine Kan-Duettes.

She is survived by sons, Scott (Kimberly) and Rod; granddaughter, Alicia; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Rosella Behrens Dage; and her furry companion, Smokey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; sister, Lillian (Clyde) Savage; and brothers, Dale and Lynne (Bonnie) Behrens.

Honorary pallbearers include Duane Behrens, Roger Behrens, Steve Behrens, John Mayfield, Rick Petersen, Jack Campbell and Dennis Bullock.

Memorials may be given to the Siouxland Humane Society or the Shrine Transportation Fund in her name.
