Nellie Elizabeth Strong, 95, of Dakota City, passed away Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at a care center in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

Abiding with Nellie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Dakota City United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jamie Farias officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Nellie was born Aug. 10, 1922, in Knoxville, Iowa. She moved with her family to Nebraska when she was 3 years old. She lived a short time in Jackson, Neb., before moving to Dakota City, and lived there the rest of her life.

She was a member of the Dakota City United Methodist Church, Eastern Star of South Sioux City, helped organize and was a member of the Dakota City American Legion Auxiliary. She was employed with the South Sioux City Schools for over 30 years, and she always remarked how the children remembered her cinnamon rolls.

Survivors include her son, LeRoy C. and his wife, Barbara Strong of Dakota City; a daughter and her husband, LaVonne G. and James Schmidt of Bella Vista, Ark.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Alyce Davis of Dakota City; and a sister, Dana Strong of Port Lavaca, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles, July 30, 2015; and a son, Steven L. Strong.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider making a memorial to Hospice of Siouxland.
