Pat had a tremendous thirst for learning and decided early on to focus on a nursing career. He first attended St. Joseph School of Nursing and then attended Briar Cliff College, earning a bachelor of science in nursing degree (BSN) and a bachelor of arts degree (BA). He earned a master of science degree (MSN) from the University of New Mexico's Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program. During his nursing career, he worked at Marian Health Center, Sioux City as well as Michael Reese Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, Ill.

Pat was very passionate about his Catholic faith and practiced it on a daily basis. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Mesa, where he was installed as a Fourth Degree knight with the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered for church projects as well as those in his community.

Pat was known for his hearty laugh which was unmistakable. He loved oldies music, especially Diana Ross and the Supremes. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and attended many games over the years with his family.
